    Babies and Teething

Posted on April 29th, 2019 by Dr. Peter Tomaselli

When your baby becomes four to seven months old, teething ensues. It’s important that parents can recognize the signs of teeth and with that, relieve the teething pain. Teething is a painful experience for babies. They can get frustrated and the pain leads to more crying and discomfort. Fortunately, today there are many things you can do to ease the pain and have your cranky baby smiling again.

    Teething Signs

Teething is an extremely painful experience for babies. Because there isn’t much communication to be had, parents need to be observant of when their children may start teething. There are many signs of teething, but here are a few (obvious and subtle) to look out for:
    • Swollen gums
    • Drooling
    • Fussiness/Sleeping difficulties
    • Gnawing on things
    • Eating pattern changes
    • Pulling ears
    • Rubbing his or her face
    • Blood blisters on the gyms
    • Face rash
    • Swollen lymph nodes

    Teething Remedies

There are many remedies out there to reinstate the comfort back in your child when teething becomes an issue. For starters, you can rub your baby’s gums by cleaning your hands and providing a bit of pressure on the top and bottom gums. You can also offer cold treats that will provide the hot pain around the gums. Lastly, there are new toys out in the market that are made especially for this reason. Check out these necklaces and pacifiers for baby comfort solutions.   If you are ever confused or lost on what to do when your baby is going through teething, reach out to your dentist. They will be able to answer questions or let you know if you should bring your baby in for a visit. Chicago Smile Design is always available for your dentist needs in Chicago, Illinois.
