    Too Many Reasons To Smile

Posted on July 21st, 2014 by Dr. Peter Tomaselli

What makes you smile the most? Whether it's a funny movie, snuggling with your pet, or date night with your significant other, smiling is a natural response that shows just how happy we are. There is also a mind and body connection with smiling - read below about why smiling is good for our minds, bodies and relationships with others.

A smile can create happiness. Even cracking a fake smile will send a message to your brain that you are happy, causing your body to release endorphins and making you feel good.

A smile is contagious. The saying is true, when you smile, the world smiles back. When we are around people who are smiling and happy, it is difficult not to feel happy ourselves. Seeing our loved ones smile can make us smile without even realizing it.

A smile relieves stress. When you begin to feel stressed about school, work or a busy schedule, try to take a breath and smile. The endorphins released are known to reduce the symptoms associated with anxiety and slow your heart rate.

A smile can help you in your job search. First impressions are everything, especially when interviewing for a new job. Smiling shows confidence, conscientiousness and stability in life - just what an employer is looking for in a new employee.

A smile makes you more attractive. Just like in the job interview, the confidence associated with a smile is just as appealing to people you meet in everyday life. Next time you are out on a date or meeting new friends, crack a smile! It will make you feel good, and spread those positive feelings to those around you.
