Avoid Seeing Your Dentist More than Necessary

Posted on September 18th, 2014 by Dr. Peter Tomaselli

We love getting to see our patients, but we understand that visiting our office is probably not on your list of favorite things to do! While you should not by any means skip your routine checkup and cleaning, there are ways you can reduce the chance of having to visit our office any more than that. Here are some tips:
    • Have we told you yet how important it is to brush and floss twice a day? It bears repeating - this tried-and-true method is the easiest, most effective way to prevent an unplanned visit.
    • Make sure you are using the correct brushing form: massage along the gum line at a 45-degree angle to the gums.
    • Avoid foods that are high in acid or sugar; if you do eat them, try to do so in moderation and brush/floss right after.
    • Eat healthy foods that promote oral health, such as apples, celery and carrots.
    • Wear a mouth guard if you are involved in contact sports to avoid a dental emergency.
    • It may sound strange, but visit your dentist to avoid extra visits to the dentist! Missing regular cleanings and checkups increases the likelihood for cavities, gum disease and a variety of other oral health problems.
Now, doing these things aren't a surefire way to prevent dental problems and avoid extra dentist visits, but it will certainly go a long way in helping to do so. If you have any questions regarding oral health care, don't hesitate in calling our office at 312-664-2100!
