Clearly, some foods are better for your teeth than others. A common misconception is that you only need to worry about sugary foods though! While you definitely do not want to consume too much sugar, a red flag is if something is acidic. With sugar, the concern is how soon after consuming sugar do you brush rather than how much is consumed. This is similar to the foods that are acidic, but they tend to be worse for your teeth than something sugary. The higher the level of acidity, the worse it is; your goal is for your food to be alkaline. It is impossible to avoid all foods with levels of acidity, but it is good to know what foods you should cut back on, as well as brush soon after eating them.

Much of the food that is listed in the bad/worst sections are foods that we consume every day, such as beef, eggs, and chicken. You do not need to cut these out of your diet, but adding in some of the best/good foods, if you don’t already, is something to consider. Many fruits are acidic, but you can always replace a serving of raspberries with a serving of blueberries. Things like that can help keep your oral health top notch!
