Keep Yourself Healthy on the Road

Posted on December 17th, 2014 by Dr. Peter Tomaselli

Leaving town to celebrate the holidays? It can be difficult to keep up with your regular hygiene routine while traveling, but it isn't impossible!

Here are some ways to stay healthy whether in the car, on a train, or by plane:

Stay hydrated: You should be drinking plenty of water every day, but especially while traveling. It keeps energy levels up and your immune system strong. It will also flush out bacteria in your mouth from any foods you may be snacking on during the trip.

Air out your toothbrush: Make sure your toothbrush is thoroughly dry before packing it up for the trip, as a wet toothbrush can grow bacteria. Let it dry after you use it as well.

Keep your hands clean: Especially if traveling on an airplane or train, wash hands frequently. You come in contact with a lot of new bacteria.

Eat healthy: Many travelers opt for the convenience of unhealthy snacks like chips, crackers and cookies while on the go. However, try to choose more healthy options like yogurt and fruit. you can still carry these items easily in luggage and eat them on the go.

If you are traveling for the holidays, we hope you have a safe trip and a very happy holiday!
